Redevelopment of Concordia Utrecht underway

Redevelopment of Concordia Utrecht underway August 14, 2025 -

The Concordia building on Oudenoord in Utrecht is undergoing a thorough transformation. As a first step, all later additions that do not do justice to the original building are being carefully removed. This will once again reveal the monumental core – the former office of life insurer Concordia – as a prelude to its restoration and adaptive reuse.

HERMON Heritage is developing the central, monumental section into a hotel with 40 rooms and 88 short-stay apartments. These will be operated by Utrecht City Concepts. The flanking, non-monumental sections have been demolished by developer BPD to make way for new city houses and apartments.

The plans for the adaptive reuse were created by the architectural firm Enklaar en Klavers. The aim was to combine the building’s monumental character with modern functionality. The executing parties will be announced at a later stage. Initial construction work will begin on 1 September.

With this redevelopment, a distinctive piece of Utrecht’s heritage is given a new future.
