The Wilhelminaplein in Tegelen, located directly in front of our Raadhuis Tegelen project, has undergone an impressive transformation. With respect for the past and an eye on the future, the square has been redesigned as an inviting public space where history, greenery, and experience come together.
The rich ceramic history of Tegelen is now literally visible in the streetscape. Former tipping carts—once used in the ceramic industry—have been transformed into comfortable seating benches. In the paving near the parking area, subtle references have been incorporated to brick patterns from the former factory chimney.
A strong emphasis has also been placed on adding greenery. For each location, tree species have been carefully selected to suit the space and growth potential. This green boost not only enhances the quality of the public space but also contributes to biodiversity and ensures a resilient tree population for Tegelen.
For HERMON Heritage, this redevelopment is a wonderful prelude to the next phase: the restoration and adaptive reuse of the Raadhuis Tegelen. The historic character of the square perfectly complements the monumental value of the Raadhuis. We look forward to bringing this special place in the heart of Tegelen even more to life.
